David qualified as a Chartered Accountant (FCA) in 1993, as a Trust & Estate Practitioner (TEP) 2013, and as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) in 2015.
In 1995 David founded Sutton McGrath Hartley and has been managing partner ever since. In that role he works to ensure the firm implements a strategy for growth that requires attracting and retaining high quality staff from a number of different disciplines – accounting & reporting, taxation, legal, and finance and investment professionals – all of which are necessary for any modern day quality accountancy practice which seeks to offer a ‘full service’ to its client base.
However, David’s first love is taxation, and even after more than 25 years in the business his enthusiasm for the subject remains undiminished, perhaps because of and not despite the ever burgeoning body of tax law. That experience and enthusiasm mean that David gives his clients the highest quality advice on business taxes, personal tax and trust and estate taxation; in other words he can show you how to keep your taxes to the legal minimum when you are making your money, when you are investing it, and when you wish to pass it on to the next generation.
As partner with overall responsibility for Academy School Audits, David can advise on all accounting & audit issues relevant to Academies and some of the legal issues too; for example, the conversion process, devising and implementing internal controls, accounts packages and formats, management structures and reporting requirements.
If you are considering converting your school to an academy or have already converted and need a new accountant/auditor please contact David on 0114 2664432 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
